It’s in white. It’s, what do I say, menacing. It’s got a mean front.
People around gaze at it. Standing beside the highway, I can see people gazing at it at the Dhaba we have stopped in. And they talk.
“Daam kya rakhkha hoga?”, “Mileage better hua kya?”, “Bookings shuru ho gayi kya?”
That’s the effect of the New Mahindra XUV500 that’s launched in India.
I love seeing people, as always. So, I watch the drool happen. First, the front, as always with the XUV. It is powerful and it shows off. There are times when the sun glints off it onto the face of the onlooker and it is a sight. It’s pure pleasure in his face that I see.
Then, they come to the sides and see the dashboard. The plush seating and the roominess of the interior. It’s drool of the highest order.
Even after being around for seven long years and (and not receiving substantial change to the overall design and features), the Mahindra XUV500 has been one of the most popular SUVs sold in India. However, there is a new crop of SUVs that have been launched and are slowly gaining popularity. How does Mahindra tackle that? The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 is here, with an updated design, a plusher feel and a more powerful engine.
Oh yes, there is an updated headlight assembly that is readily visible to anyone who knows. The other major update is the piano finished grille with chrome inserts and that makes it look a little larger in the front. More menacing, if you know what I mean, again.
The sides get some chrome on the door sills and there are some very stylishly cut alloy wheels for the bling liking customer.
The back looks much better than before. A new plan with the lights flowing into the tailgate and there is some nice chrome above the license plate. A touch of sexiness.
Inside the car, the quilt type seat cushion design is likeable but the seats are a tad uncomfortable even now. The roominess of the car sort of compensates. They have done a lot of things with the dashboard. But what attracts is a new music system that’s ARKAMYS tuned. It’s nice but could have been better. Lot of applications on a dashboard, things that one really does not need. They have an app that can sync with a smart watch. Phew!
The car is available in Petrol and Diesel versions. The Diesel Version has the same 2179 CC engine but its much powerful now because of an e VGT turbocharger. The rpms go up to 2500 this time and that is really good. It responds well to city drives but the highway is where it really opens up its possibilities.
I have a 6 – speed Manual XUV but I believe the 6 speed Automatic XUV moves from 0 to 100 in 12 seconds on the speedometer. That’s excellent. It delivers 9.7 kmpl in a diesel version in city. It can go up to 11.5 kmpl on highways.
Well, do you want to buy?
The diesel versions are priced between Rs. 12.3 lakhs and 18.9 lakhs ex-showroom Mumbai. The lone Petrol version is Rs. 15.5 Lakhs ex-showroom Mumbai.
Go ahead, great SUV, this XUV500!!
